Article #98: Vintage 1969 Patio Soda Bottle

In this new article we take a look at this vintage Patio soda bottle from 1969. Patio was introduced in 1963 by Pepsi. The drink was created in response to Diet Rite cola. Debbie Drake, who was a fitness promoter was the spokesperson for Patio diet cola. Patio released flavors such as orange, grape and root beer in 1964. The flavor line wasn't meant to compete with Orange Crush, but these flavors filled out the line. It was sold in mom and pop stores, grocery stores and the cold bottle market. As far as advertising for Patio, it was scarce. At that time, it was franchised regionally and the advertising was local. Patio diet cola became Diet Pepsi in 1964. Most of the Patio line was phased out by the early 1970's. On the front of this bottle you have the logo at the top of the bottle as well as where it points out that it was made by Pepsi under the logo.

Here is a close up look at the logo.

Here is a close up of the bottom of the bottle where it says 69. This means it was bottled in 1969.
