Article #93: Vintage 1954 Bireleys Soda Bottle



In our 93rd article we are looking at this vintage Bireleys soda bottle from 1954. Bireleys was a non carbonated drink which was produced by Frank W Bireley which was established in 1923 in California. Over time, the brand grew and becoming well known in the United States. The brand originated from Frank Bireleys orange juice business, which began selling squeezed juice to fellow students at Stanford University. Thereafter, he left Stanford and started his business. The original product was originally produced at the company plant in North Hollywood. In 1937, a plant in Oakland was introduced. By 1942, they were producing about 58 million bottles a month.  In 1943, it was acquired by general foods. In addition several new flavors were introduced,  plus the brand expanded overseas. The front and back look the same where you have the logo at the top of the bottle and under that it says that it is non carbonated. It is a 6 1/4 ounce bottle. Plus you have the logo embossed in the middle.

Here is a look at the bottom. It has the number 54 which means it was bottled in 1954 and in the middle is the Pennsylvania like keystone symbol.
