Article #64: Vintage 1968 Dr Pepper Soda Bottle with Drink Inside

 


Here in our 64th article we are looking at this vintage 1968 Dr Pepper soda bottle which still has the full drink inside. Dr Pepper was created in the 1880's by pharmacist Charles Alderton of Waco, Texas. It was first served in 1885 and was nationally marketed in the US in 1904. The Dr Pepper name was first used commercially in 1885. On the front of the bottle you have the 10 2 4 logo at the top and in the middle. The numbers 10 2 4 for Dr Pepper referred to a marketing campaign inspired by Dr. Walter Eddy of Columbia University. A study found that blood sugar is lowest around 10 am, 2 pm and 4 pm. The campaign encouraged people to drink it for an energy boost. 


          On the back of the bottle you have the Dr Pepper writing as well as the 10 2 4 logo at the top.

This last close up is of the bottom of the bottle where it says 3 68 which means it was bottled in March of 1968.
