Article #108: Vintage 1950's Grapico Soda Bottle
In this new article we take a look at this vintage Grapico soda bottle from the 1950's. Grapico was introduced in 1916 and quickly became a success. A part of that was that it was implied that the drink included real grape juice even thought it did not contain real grape juice. In the summer of 1917, R.R Rochell who was a buisnessman purchased syrup barrels from J. Grossman Sons and then bottled and sold Grapico to the soft drink market in Alabama. As a result of that, they became the forst bottler to buy the syrup wholesale. In 1920, soft drinks became a popular opton due to prohibition. Rochell began selling Grapico in Alabama in 1917 and then in 1918 it started to be sold in Mississippi. By 1922, it expanded into the soft drink market in Florida. In June 1947, Rochell's buisness began using the names The Grapico Bottling Company and The Grapico Company of America. In July 1957, the buisness name was changed to the Ornage Crusg Grapico Company. On the front of the bottle yout have the writing up at the top, below that you have some embossed dots, and in the middle you have the logo.
